I just bought a 55 gallon aquarium and want to set it up for soft corals.

Wal-mart and petsmart are not going to have a lighting system good enough for corals. I don't think they even sell power compact lights at all. I've had good experiences with bigalsonline.com and hellolights.com. Both are resonably priced and have good service. I'm particularly fond of the coralife units.

You won't find anything like what you're looking for at WalMart. You might try looking through craigslist and freecycle ads in your area.

Also, if there are any major cities around, see if they have an aquarium club or society. These groups have periodic auctions so their members can sell fish they've bred (better than most pet store stock!) and equipment they no longer use. You can pick up some good deals!

I would look into switching to HO T-5 fixtures they run cooler.
