first of all, no one....not one single person in the entire world, is still shocked about the zidane headbutt. we've all forgotten about that and dont care anymore.

secondly, in my opinion, de rossi is a dirty player. hes just nasty. i was cheering for italy (after argentina lost), but that doesnt mean i liked every player on the team. i hate de rossi and totti.

I guess you've a very poor and too longlasting digestion...!!
It seems you are not able, like almost everybody outside of Italy, to accept the fact Italian soccer team has derservedly won its 4th World Championship since,at nearly one year distance, you are here to discuss again about Zidane and De Rossi.
Nobody of us Italians is still shocked by Zidane's head-butt since everyone that has a good memory can remember he did something else wrong in his player's past and having already seen him, in a match of the 1998 World Cup, receiving a red card for stepping on the back of a Saudi Arabia player.
On the other hand nobody of us Italian had ever complained for the sanction given to De Rossi since we found it absolutely correct and here in Italy I didn't ever read a single line or heard a single word justifying his unsporting behaviour.
I'm sure you'll not agree with me since from the phrasing of yr question it's crystal clear that you are not "neutral" but I feel that you're just a bit too late in cropping up with this old story and, what is worse, with a verdict already implied in yr question.

well, to all u haters who answered this questions saying that ," Italian footballers are diving,self-loving,amateur dramatic cheats." and that , " They are not going to say that ZIdane was wright. By the way: Zidane did the wright thing."
stop jumping to conclusions.

just so u know, we weren't proud of DeRossi's elbow.
We knew that it was his fault and that he deserved that red card.
The guy was bleeding for crying out loud! and it was great when he came back in!

when Zinedine headbutted Materazzi, that was really stupid!
if Materazzi was provoking him so much, then why didn't he conrtrol himself and just go out there and try his hardest to win the World Cup and THEN rub it in Materazzi's face?!?!

but no....he had to be stupid and headbuttt Materazzi in front of the ref. he knew what he was doing and he deserved to be leaving the game cuz of what he did. so don't be complaining on his behalf. btw, he did it to his own horse too!

anywayz, i am also a huge Zindine Zidane fan, but ever since 06, jeez.

Italia was just defending their team, just like any other team would have done.

Here's a question: If it had been France who had done the elbowing against USA and Italia who headbutted France, what would French "fans" say?

Where do Italian fans said it was "acceptable"...?
De Rossi was blamed and nobody dared to say he didn't deserved the red card and consequent disqualification. Or anyway I never heard somebody stating (I live in Italy).
If you can tell me where you read such thoughts, let me know, but they are preposterous and hypocritical statement, if real.
Anyway, Italians aren't "still shocked" by Zidane's head-but; looking at Answers, it seems French ar still shocked by Zidane's red card...

They don't like America? What did you expect them to do, roll over and start booing their own team while trying to show support to McBride? Also, Materazzi could have stayed up from that without taking a step back. But nope, he has to roll around in agony for a few minutes just to get his point across. What did McBride do in that situation? Got up with blood streaming down his face, got stitches on the sideline and went back in. That's true football.

Because they're immature and cannot recognize their own faults but pick out the faults of world-class players easily. I am not French and I still wish that incident at the final did not happen, but what can we do? Materazzi is the most hated footballer in the world (well, maybe the most beloved in Italia) so if he can sleep at night, knowing that, then so be it

It is their team so they are protecting themselves. They are not going to say that ZIdane was wright.
By the way: Zidane did the wright thing.

Basically, it's been the story of Italian football for at least 75 years, they can dish it out but can't take it.
