One of the "London Bridges" ... there have been many over the years, as you can imagine, with repairs and reconstructions. But in the late '60s a wealthy American oilman bought one of the older structures and moved it to Lake Havasu City as a tourist attraction. It's about a couple hours' drive south of Las Vegas, we did it on a day trip. A boring drive, but you can stop in the town of Needles, Ariz, where Snoopy's brother, Spike, lived in the comics. (No, there's no monument to Spike, we checked) ... the bridge itself is kind of a letdown, very small. Built around it is a small shopping center that's supposed to look like old England. There's a brew pub there that has a funny smell to it. The "island" the bridge links to is largely empty, and like many desert lakes, the view isn't spectacular, largely just burnt earth surrounding a body of water ... if you're in Vegas and want a roadtrip, it's not entirely bad to say you've seen it. You also go through the town of Searchlight, Nevada, where U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) grew up. It's pretty much just a wide spot in the road.
