I am a sophomore in high school and have just begun to look at colleges! Unfortunately my freshman grades were horrible! I was wondering if anyone knew any tips that I could put on my college application to make myself stand out more!

What do you recommend?

If this fall you're entering your junior year, keep your grades as high as you can until you graduate. Even if it's 2nd semester senior year, keep going. All colleges require a final transcript and if they see you slacked your second semester, they'll revoke your acceptance. If you're entering sophomore year this fall, again, keep your grades as high as possible.
STUDY STUDY STUDY. You WON'T regret it. Turn in your things on time. In class, take a lot of notes (Get used to it, in college, that's ALL you'll do) and look through them every day so when it's test day, you won't cram all the things in one night. I promise this works, get into the habit of it! If you can, take SAT/ACT prep classes, so you're scores are higher. Get involved in school clubs and community servicewhen you can.
This is all the things colleges look at!!

Get into some extra curricular activities and do some volunteer work. Helping in the community is a powerful asset.

Starting right now if you show real improvement then the college admissions officers will look at that. They understand that sometimes you have bad grades, sometimes, especially when young, that you don't care. If you continue to improve your grades they will forgive that one bad year.

Try to get your current and future grades up. Get into extracurricular activities. Join a sports team. Volunteer.

Good luck, you can still make it. Never loose faith in yourself.
