I really don't like to choose a best answer, especially when the people put the time and effort to answer my question. Unless it's a definite and sure answer, than I will choose it

The Bible, of course! Atlas Shrugged (MmmmHmmm) also had a big influence, as did ALL of Heinlein's books such as The Moon is a Harsh Mistress (Sid). Most of the other answers are good books to read. I can't believe the Harry Potter books, and such others, had an influence over anyone, except to influence them to spend more time reading!

I read The Diary of Anne Frank when I was 11 and of all the books I have ever read, this one seemed to have the most profound effect on me. I began to question my relationship with my parents ( beginning the inevitable separation process), I began to question authority in a way I had never dreamed necessary, I found suddenly that the world was a much larger and more hostile place than my small world and I learned that the lines between good and evil are not as clearly defined as I had always thought. In other words, I started to grow up as Anne matured and shared her vision of what the world could be.

Frank Perretti's "Peircing the darkness" & "This present darkness", and David & Leigh Eddings, Belgarion series, Mallerean series the prequals, and the codex, (basically all the books written by the Eddings.)
I sort of have a lot because it's not just 1 book that will influence.

As odd as it may seem, I ROBOT and the FOUNDATION series by Asimov, WAR AND PEACE, DR. ZHIVAGO, and most of Heinlein's earlier works. Of course, there are many more that have influenced me to some degree or another. I still carry an eerie picture of ghosts staring back at me from still ponds on Mars!

Mine is tied between The Lord of the Rings and the Harry Potter series. I find them to be very powerful novels that really speak to me on a deep, spiritual level. Fantasy can take real world images and issues and rework them into a wondrous journey with a meat of meaning, uncolored by preconceived notions.

Cheers!! :)

I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou has been a very influential book for me.. it has one of the major themes found in many great books.. the perseverance of the human spirit.. that no matter what has happened in our lives we survive and find a way to go on.

Harry Potter because of its classic themes.
Such as friendship, love, and fact that you always have a choice. Also honor and that a sense of humor is important.
