This is not a ethnic or racial question. Should states provide benefits to non-citizens? This is regardless of whether they're legal immigrants or illegals. I say no because there are so many citizens who don't even have these benefits.

Aggravating as it is, human decency says we should treat emergency situations in our public hospitals.

But I am aggravated that it is my tax dollars that go to pay for it! And since they are here illegally and are paid "off the books" they don't provide financial support to the very institutions they rely on.

I live in Dallas County Texas and my hospital district tax bill to support Parkland Hospital is unfreaking believable.........because illegal aliens from all across many counties in North Texas go there......and the lucky citizens of Dallas County are footing the bill.

I wonder if the Michael Moore film "Sicko" will explore this angle...

I know that many people who would support a more "socialized" healthcare system would not want to support it for non-citizens... putting a potential drain on our resources as tax payers.

If you want to blame someone for illegal workers putting a drain on resources and rising medical costs... blame the big companies like McDonalds and Wal-Mart... there are so many illegals working for these "low price" businesses off the books...
Make these companies hire REAL American workers... that will solve MOST of our problems.
Everytime you enjoy low prices at Wal-Mart and McDonald's, just think about how those prices got so low... what short cuts are they taking?
Why are the 2nd, 3rd and 4th richest people in America all members of the Wal-Mart family? It is entirely due to their unwillingness to support the country that supports them!

Definitely for legal immigrants, that would be just wrong. But the majority of states don't even provide health care benefits or welfare benefits to any of their citizens.

Take a trip to your local E.R. and read the many signs on the walls. I was there just the other night -- my 8 y/o son had a REALLY nice head laceration. It took us 4 hours (I pitched a fit and threatened to do the suturing myself!) to clear the joint. The doctors were too busy treating all of the indigent for every sniffle under the sun. "It's the Law. We cannot turn you away regardless of you inability to pay or lack of insurance. We are required by law to treat and stabilize you and make adequate arrangements for continued health care. It's The LAW!"
The next big political issue will be feeding the hungry. It'll be mandated that the most expensive dives in town will have to feed them until they are nolonger hungry and then make arrangesments to provide adequate food sources for the rest of their lives! So much for "Universal Health Care." It's called entitlement.

No, we have no obligation to do so. We may be a wealthy country, but we have no obligation to do so. America is a very generous country and donates millions of dollars to less well off countries, but we have no obligation.

No but all states are. Hospitals cannot turn patients away who are in need of emergent care.

In our civilized society , I believe everyone should have a right to emergency medical care and children should have a right to basic medical care. To me it just the right thing to do in a civilized society.

No, because the taxpayers of that state have to pay for that and we get taxed enough.

What makes them so special. I can see emergency care if they are hurt. Welfare NEVER!
