Brittany is a pretty name. I say keep it. Brittany makes me think of a pretty cheerleader who is popular and outgoing. I don't like Cristal.

The meaning of "Brittany" comes from the English language and has been derived from the coastal regions of Great Britain. In the late 1800's as well as into the early 1900's, the global dominant "kingdom" that ruled 3/4 of the globe was Great Britain, thus what with many of the english/scottish/welch/irish indenturded men being shipped off to the conquered regions as soilders, they longed to head back home to the mother country, and they used the phrase, "Oh, to be back to ol' Britainny". Many would be gone for years at a time. So the true meaning of Brittany, Britany, Brettany, Bretney or what ever the spelling these days, has the meaning of loyalty, steadfastness, longing and love of all things home.

Another part of this is also in the French language the name of the region in the northwest of France, called in French Bretagne. It was named for the Briton settlers who fled to that area after the Anglo-Saxon invasion of England, formerly known as the Norman Conquest in the late 7th and into the 8th centuries.

It is funny you write that their are too many people with your name but current statistics do not show that. The statistics for the name Brittany, that is what ranking parents name their children each year, had dwindled considerably over the years. Those statistics are:
2004 #240
2003 #210
2002 #171
2001 #115
2000 #61
1999 #35
1998 #25
1997 #20
1996 #14
1995 #8
1994 #7
1993 #6
1992 #4
1991 #3
1990 #3
So you can see that back in the 90's, your name was within the top 5 names picked but then gradually lost it's interest in the late 90's until now that Brittany is now ranked the 240th name. You must be over 17 if your are now complaining that there are too many of you out there.

The name "Ann" is of English origin (pronounced AN) and it means "gracious" which falls in your categroy of "a caring person". But it is also in the forms of French (AN), German (AH-nu), Finnish, Scandinavain and others. It may have been taken from the French version, "Hannah" and translated into the english way of word phrasing.

Unfortunately, Crystal means simply "crystal" from the English word for the clear, colourless glass, sometimes cut into the shape of a gemstone. The English word derives ultimately from Greek κρυσταλλος (krystallos) meaning "ice". I do not think you wish to be known as someone whose name means "ice"! Could have a whole new meaning of "a cold heart" and other unpleasent thoughts!

I have no suggestions as to what you would like as a first name. If you prefer to look on the heritage of the name, then you have much to be proud of. Yet, if you must choose a name, search the first website below and you can be intrigued by all the names and their meanings and origins. But, be happy in your self and love yourself for who you are inside, and not what others think you are by your name. May God Bless.

Brittany - All American Cheerleader-ish, perky, talkative, outgoing, scattered.

Ann - Is more old fashioned, domestic, reserved, wise.

New middle name....Melody, Cadence?

But that's just me! Haven't known a girl of either name well enough to be biased.

Brittany is OK, but it reminds me of a snobby girl, which I'm sure you are not. It seems like Emma fits your characteristics.

Brittany is either a preppy kind of name or a trashy kind of girl... no offense, I'm sure you are not... but a lot of people around where i live are kind of trashy and have names like brittany. I don't like crystal either. To me, I don't know why, but I think of drugs. Maybe b/c of Crystal Meth. I don't know though...
