I have an Acer Aspire T180 that I want to put a larger hard drive in. It's my first name brand computer, I generally build my own. I was wondering if any HD will work in it or if I have to usually a special like licensed one or something, kina of like how you have to use certain brand of RAM. If you got anything else I should know about them let me know also please. Thank you for your time.

You'll probably want to buy a HD with the same kind of interface that the original HD has. It will either be PATA (parallel) with an 40 wire cable, or a SATA (serial) with a much smaller 7 wire cable. Other than that it's pretty straight forward and just about any brand will do, although some are better than others. HD's are incredibly cheap these days, so you can get a lot of bang for your buck. Depending upon what you plan on doing with the additional drive, you may want to transfer your operating system on to your newer (and probably faster) HD and use your old HD for storage. Then again, you might just want a huge HD to back everything up keep your OS where it is. To each their own I guess.

Should be OK, acer should be able to add a new hd. Install it, turn it on in bios. Another better alternative for name brand computers, esp ones that have reps for being propriaitay is just to go with an exernal drive. They're cheap, reliable, not much slower and transportable to another computer in case things go south on you. DO NOT use any drives auto back up features, if youre corrupted, remember, garbage in-garbage out.
