I want to be a Surgeon.. and so I am looking at different colleges specialized in the area of medicine. I was curious about Creighton and College of St. Mary's, but it said it was catholic. Do you have to be catholic to go there?

no you don't - just like you don't have to be LDS to attend BYU (in utah, hawaii or idaho). While discrimination based on religion is legal with private institutions, you just have to a) realize the ideology with which they emphasize and b) agree to and abide by any 'honor codes' or 'codes of conduct' rules they may have. Most will usually require some theology coursework to satisfy some part of the degree/program. It's not any different than state institutions requiring 'diversity' courses to 'broaden the horizons' of young people.

Creighton is a great school - even if you bristle as some of the things held sacred by the culture there, it's an amazing school to go to, especially if you want to be a surgeon. GL!

Remember that Catholic colleges are Christian colleges, too. That said, I know what you mean. I'd say Calvin, Eastern Nazarene, Gordon, Houghton, North Park, Roberts Wesleyan, and Wheaton are some of the academically stronger evangelical Protestant colleges. I'm not sure about famous, other than maybe Wheaton because Billy Graham went there, but that shouldn't matter anyway.

No, you do not have to be a Catholic. I understand that these are private affiliations, but refusing you admission because of your religious tradition, would be discrimination.

I can't imagine the likes of any of these schools refusing to admit someone just because they were Protestant or something else for that matter. Now tell me all those aspiring college athletes who are pursued relentlessly by the recruiters at Notre Dame, Creighton or St. Mary's are all Catholics?

no. That is a silly question.

Catholic schools ( of all levels) have always welcomed non Catholics.

No. But you have to understand they operate under those principles.
