They eat anything they can. It's frustrating when they go after tender plants, or your own fruits & veggies like spinach & strawberries. (1) They nest in & munch on debris around plants, so it's important to remove decaying matter ... especially when they are emerging in the spring. (2)

they eat decaying plant material but they are also meat eaters and will eat animal poop and food that falls to the ground
