Focus on the glove.....let the glove do the work in picking up the ball. Don't think about it....focus on getting the glove down in front of you to do the work.

okay. so last year when i was on my 1st year highshool, i am scared to catch grounders. it is because i am not good at catching it then.
but this is what i did in order to catch the grounder and not to be hit by it.
first: practice grounders with a friend that will throw a grounder
second: practice grounders with a friend that will bat (a weak bat) a grounder.
third: if you're used to step 1and 2 then practice catching a grounder with a bat (this time a strong bat)
make sure that before every pitch you are in a ready position, place your mit at the ground and bend your knees. you should also place your free hand at the side of your other hand in order for you to cover when you catch a ball.
charge the ball.
in softball you are really supposed to get hit, so get that fear outta your head.
you can overcome that fear. practice practice practice..
goodluck

1.don't think about getting hit or you will.
2.purchase shin guards to wear under stockings.
3.when fielding a grounder, form a triangle.....
both feet spread shoulder length, glove out in front
between feet (triangle). as glove is touching ground
place other hand above the glove wrist with fingers
extended and fingers spread, that way if ball rolls out
of glove, your free hand will stop it, also allowing you
for a quicker throw to base.
4.get into the habit of observing dirt in front of you for
rocks, divots, or clumps of dirt that may cause for a
bad hop, if so simply remove or level out dirt with foot.
5. DON'T TURN YOUR HEAD!!!

Play catch with a teammate, and tell them to try to hit you with the ball in the face. Catch it at the last possible moment. Every one in a while, let one hit you. It isn't so bad. Dentists are O.K. once you get to know them.

CHOOSE to change the way you feel about getting hit.
Like the idea. or just don't mind getting hit.
It is just a choice.
apply this to anything in life.
otherwise concentrate more . Focus on what you have to do. Keep your eyes on the ball.
Come on, your the best on the team. you can do it.

Get in front of the ball if you can and never take your eyes off the ball. You will have much more success.

Simple practice practice practice. i had a problem with that in baseball a few years ago. just work through it and try to remember that it doesn't hurt that bad.
