No, it can't. I just tryed it. It kinda sucks nintendo never adds any of the good stuff like that, or not being able to listen to your music when playing, or ever in that matter. =(

if youre looking to watch videos on your wii, there are programs that can enable you to watch videos from your pc to the Wii. but it would be streamed from your pc so the only incentive is that you get to view your videos from your pc to the television.
you will first need a program to covert your videos on your pc (avi, mpeg, wmv) to a format the wii can recognize. its called wii video 9 and heres the link

next you would need a program to stream the video to your wii. its called wii media center and it will allow you to stream movies, pictures and music to your wii. here is the link for that

it might be a bit complicated, but its the only way to watch videos for you wii

you can not play blue ray or normal DVDs. but you can stream movies and tv shows from the netflix service on the wii.

it cant play dvds. that feature will be available in the futur. however, it can play videos that are in a mpeg format that are saved onto an SD card you play them in the photo channel.

no. it would be able to but they used a different disc format because they didnt like bootleg games.
