I would say Franklin D. Roosevelt, who was the only president to be elected for three terms, even though he died in office in his third term. He brought the country out of the great depression, and is probably, reported in history as one of the greatest presidents.
My second choice would be Ronald Reagan who was very good for the country"s economy. His economic programs
were also continuedd by Bush sr, and Clinton.
He was also governor of Ca, and his programs, which he put into effect, probably got him elected president...

George Washington. Washington helped found the United States, defend it and helped author some of the rights we enjoy today. He was the first and had an opportunity to make himself dictator of the United States but didn't. Lastly, he warned us against becoming involved in international affairs and alliances. We should have heeded his warnings.

James K Polk
He achieved every goal he set for himself and is one of the few to leave the country stronger than he found it. Most Presidents set lofty goals and never achieve them, and their policies for achieving them usually cause the strength of the country to vary up and down. Not with Polk.
Although, I'm biased by virtue of being a Polk zealot.
