In my judgement, anyone who knows the details of the system is more important to the result than someone who knows .NET. No matter how skilled the people on the NET side, if they don't know the details and choices of the legacy, then it will take forever to finish the projects. Knowing the legacy, learning NET for any programmer, especially with a knowledgeable assistant who can answer "Where the h... do I find this utility?" As a programmer who did a number of special projects, the most frustrating thing about Visual BASIC is finding where the simplest old BASIC functions have been buried in the encylopedia of options in VB. A membership application I knew intimately because I had built it at a local museum was given to a company thaf already had a membership application running for churches because I hadn't worked in the language on the IBM machine. It took them three years to get it functioning properly.
