As for the swim question... you can't swim with a pad. Tampons! Since you are new to it i would suggest trying a small tampon (regular), and a brand that uses a plastic applicator, not a cardboard one. The cardboard ones tend to get stuck and can feel very uncomfortable (tampax). Plastic ones like pearl, or playtex are good. It may take a few tries to get a hang of it, but I started tampons after my first period.

Okay heres how it goes down.
I had mine like three months ago. And i know that its really embarresing at first, but then you realize everyone else gets it to. You get your period every 28 days. And dont be worried if it comes a little late. I just learned that a late period doesnt always mean your going to have a baby; it can be because of stress, diet, exercise, ect.
No you can not swim with a pad. It's the worst thing. My friend tried it when her and i went to the beach for a day. She said it got all poofed up like a diaper! Then she said it got all hard and weird; so my advice dont try that. What you can do is wear tampons. If you told your mom about your period, she'll be smart and but the tampons for you. It isnt hard to put them in. I just started to use them and my period was irregular. It still hasnt come yet. But thats okay because i asked about it and i got very good answers. So if yuo have any questions about that, just read my question "FOR GIRLS ONLY!" and it'll help.
Good luck.

usually it takes a while for your period to be regular. i had mine for over 3 years before it started coming every month. but for what to use, i'd say right now it might be easier to use a pad because it probably isnt that heavy of a flow yet. and no you can't swim with a pad in. pads absorb liquid, ie WATER! haha so don't swim with a pad in, but don't worry i have found that for some reason your period stops when in water, but not when your in water for a long time. if your in for over an hour or so, i'd consider wearing a tampon. if your nervouse about using tampons try light tampons, they are small and still absorb well.

When you first start having periods, it's a good idea to mark it on a personal calendar somehow. They usually come 28 days between each other, but because you're just starting you might be irregular (meaning it won't be exactly 28 days). Depending on the flow, you can use whatever pads you want to use. I used to use Always, but now i use tampons. And also, Tampons are what you should use while swimming. It might feel odd at first if your hymen isn't broken, but you'll get used to it.

You should get your period about ever 28 days (after the last day of your period). I don't use pads, I can't stand them. You cannot swim with pads, but you can wear a tampon. They are difficult to use at first, try the thinnest type and lubricate with a little k-y or in worst case a little Vaseline. The pearl-type (plastic) are the easiest to insert.
Good luck

No, you cant swim with a pad. They just soak up the water completely, and become very thick and hard.
Try using a tampon. If it hurts, try putting a bit of spit on the opening, to lubricate it. It should hurt so much then. Slide the applicator in up to the finger grips, then push it in. Dont push it in too soon. Make sure the finger grips are right up to your vaginal opening.
If it still hurts while you're inserting it, try wiggling it around to find an angle that feels better.
good luck dear! :)

At first,, as a young girl, your periods may not come every month. and may even skip a couple months. but soon they should be coming regularly after about a year. Typically you do not wear a pad while you swim. but you can use a tampon.
