yes its a daft answer and possibly more correct to say either of the following..
1, you can tell when a politician lies... there lips move
or
2, the only time politicians tell the truth is when they say other politicians tell lies..

on a serious note i am, believe it or not involved in a small way with local politics,I am a community council therefore dont get paid, benefits or perks.. i do it because i love the village i stay in and want to make it an even better place to live and for the benefit of others help in small ways.
many councillors, mp's and other politicians genuinely do get involved because they feel they can improve our society, yes they make mistakes or unpopular decisions but hey... who doesn't?

Some politicians do tell lies, they are no different from the general public, a lot of people on here tell them too. Very often it is circumstance that does it, they say one thing in opposittion , then find it different in government. I don't vote anymore, I cannot vote for anybody because politicians of this generation do not have any belief, they just argue who can manage best rather than trying to change a rotten system. I spoil my vote by writing on the ballot that I would like to vote socialist. I patently cannot, and I can't vote for the least worst as I don't have their values. I stopped voting once John Smith died and Blair took over, he has single handedly destroyed what the Labour party stood for, not a good legacy. All you can do now is vote Tory or soft Tory.

I both agree and disagree. I agree in a way because People should really be informed enough to go a lot more in-depth than just saying Politicians do nothing but lie. However, I have to also disagree, because it is the truth that Politicians lie, constantly! If you ask someone a specific question, about a specific issue, and all they said was that Politicians do nothing but tell lies, that would be rather lame. But, if you ask someone a general question, like "What do you think about Politics?, then they are well within reason to say that All Politicians do is lie! *sm*

It depends, wouldn't say I hate it but it's pretty annoying especially when it's expressed by people like is often the case who have nothing more to say about politics, you know who clearly don't follow the news or are aware of the issue's.
There is maybe some truth that politicians are creative with the truth but maybe that's also just a human trait.
And uninformed people, the kind who can't tell you who's running for President or are not really sure if the Iraq war is still going on,I exaggerate but you get the point, who make these statements are very annoying.
Another one like this is they are all in it for the money, yeah right.
I'd say I hate it when people say that who have nothing more to say

Of course, but when I do answer (and I have to be in the mood to provide details) I try to give some references. That way, I don't feel so "unlearned" about politics in general. I do watch the news and I read the papers nearly every day, but what really gets me is that there really are a lot of people out there that can't spell (sorry) and their questions are a bit unrealistic. Didn't they at least go to HS???

Yeah, I agree, it's irritating. When I ask a person about his or her political orientation, I'm not asking for an assessment of how corrupt politicians are. No, really? Politicians are corrupt? I've never heard that!

I'm asking what they believe politically. A belief system should be independent of one's government and one's leaders.

And if things are so bad, taking an active interest in politics might be one of the better courses of action.

Well, its true for most of them. Do you actually believe that Hillary Clinton or Rudy Giuliani isn't a pathological liar. Rudy apparently hasn't even read the 9/11 Commission Report.

If you want honest people in the government, you should look for statesmen (such as Ron Paul or Mike Gravel), not politicians.

It's a conservative tactic.....

to make the government not work for the people, corrupt

and then preach that the government is corrupt

so that the people are turned off and don't want to participate

which in turn makes it easier for conservatives to take power

when only representing the rich..... and ignorant sheep who worship the rich (hateful Christians) low voter turnout is a top priority

Perhaps they didn't understand the question, or weren't clear as to what was being asked. The problem with a lot of political questions is that they aren't specific enough or they leave too much room for interpretation.
