It's not REALLY the military nearly as much as it is the spin doctors of Washington and the news media. The later likes to sensationalize everything -- remember, they're in the business of making money and they do that by getting people to watch their show. Washington's spin doctors do these things in order to sell whatever is on their little agenda. Sometimes they do this as a distraction. A classic case is unfolding before our eyes and most simply don't get it. I speak of "Universal Health Care." It already exists. Regardless of ability or inability to pay, every emergency room across the nation is required to treat you and make arrangements for continued care. It's all a ruse.
In WW II, it was to get people to buy bonds and support the war effort.

On what planet do you live???

The military have lied about almost anything at any time as long as they thought it was good for their cause, same as politicians.

Making up stories about the cruelty of the enemy is about the oldest plot ever. Remember the story during the first Iraq war about Iraqi soldiers brutally killing premature babies, ripping them out of their incubators, which later turned out to be a total fabrication? That was far worse as a lie, and many people still remember it as a fact!
