I am now 50 was thinking learning ASP.NET for about 8 months. Was thinking to work as a contracftor as I read that companies don't mind hiring older contractors for limited contracts. When it comes to hire a full time employee they automatically choose a younger guy. How long do you guys it is going to take me to learn ASP.NET in order to get my first contract? Any books that you guys will recommend?? Again thousand thx. This time I will do it & focus. That is going to be my last question.

The best and only real way to learn ASP.NET is to do it. Don't just do a course or read a book. If they want an expert then they want proof that you can do what you say you can do.
You will have to learn other things too.

Build several sites that can be seen. Including one for yourself. Use as many features as you can including database and file storage. Think about everything else that you need to make a good website. You will know when you are ready because your website will look good enough that people will come knocking at your email address.

This link is a good place to see all the things that you should need.

Good luck.
