Do buy a pattern from the fabric store. It contains instructions and will tell you how much fabric to buy. The amount of fabric is on the outside of the pattern so you can buy it without openineg the pattern. Also pay attention to what you need for notions like buttons and zippers. Look for a pattern that's forumlated for beginners. Later when you become more experienced, you can make your own patterns of go with no pattern at all.
