It's obvious that the writers really have no idea where this story is heading, and no real definite plan for it. They're just making it up as the go along. The only theory that ever made any sense was the puragatory/hell theory, and I don't understand why the writers debunked it. Maybe they wanted to extend the run of the show and not be out of a job so soon. But it's really getting annoying now.

You must be a casual watcher of Lost, because you couldn't be further from the truth!

1. There are only 48 more episodes left - it was announced earlier this month that there will be just 3 more 16-episode seasons, finishing in 2010.

2. The writers have a VERY definite story, but they are only sharing small pieces of it with the viewer - that's part of the enjoyment in watching it.

3. Last season and early this season, the writers were still opening more doors/storylines, but fans of the show complained, and ratings started to sag. As a result, they have killed off some unpopular characters (Paolo and his girl), and answered several "mysteries" (mostly about the others).

Basically, the writiers have acknowledged that they the show got a little too convoluted, and so they have streamlined their approach to writing. Also, they admit that they pay attention to viewers opinions and message boards and that that influences some of their writing.

I've read some articles which involved interviews with the writers that have stated that they know where the story is going. They already know which season will be the end.

Of course, the writers of LOST have been known to change the episodes as a result of what fans are saying. During the first or second season word got out that they were planning an episode focusing on the past of Walt's dog, Vincent, and they decided not to do the episode. They like being unpredictable, and I think it's one of the best parts of the show. Perhaps they's debunked the purgatory theory just because they know it's a really popular one.

I think they only had a plan for the first year (2nd year was loosly written). I think the writers/ proders are schitzo that also smokes crack. Did you watch the special on Thursday night @ 10:15 called "Answers"? They put a lot of past questions to bed. One was there not in purgatory. The plane crashing was an accident caused by Desmond. Yes it's out there but I have a feeling that season four will be good. They'll start in Jan. 2008 and run all year. I look forward to it, yes its out there. Did you watch Jericho (on cbs)? It was just cancelled, I wished lost would of been cancelled & Jericho brought back.
