Time is marked by the passage of events. It began, for us, with the big bang and the universe began to run down at that very moment. This running down, called positive entropy, is manifest by the passage of events...like the cooling of the universe. When the universe is totally run down and only entropy remains, time will cease.

You should note that time is a scalar value that can only increase. Even when traveling close to the speed of light, time advances because events continue to occur, much more slowly when observed from outside the thing that is moving, but advance nonetheless.
