I got a letter in the mail from a company in canada called global direct but the check that was enclosed was from a company called Mack Financial, INC out of Fresno, California. /the letter said i won a cruise vacation along a1

None that I know of but if you receive a check and are required to wire a portion of it somewhere else, it is definitely a SCAM.

Not specifically check-related scams, but snopes.com is a good site to check whether something is true or just made up.
