i have 3 remotes 1- for insignia to turn on tv.
1- for rogers cable
1 for the dvd player
i do not know how to do the turn on of the dvd player

To simplify your life, I would buy a Logitech Harmony remote. You press a "Watch Movie" button and it will turn off your cable box, turn on your DVD player, turn on your TV and switch your TV to DVD input.
1) Turn TV on with the Insignia remote. Press TV/Video button to switch to the correct input.
2) Turn on DVD player with the DVD remote. Insert DVD and press Play.
This is with the assumption that you do not have a surround sound receiver.

On your insignia remote, push TV/VIDEO. If the DVD player is hooked up to the tv A/V inputs then it should work.
