I would say Open Water and Deep Blue Sea. However, neither of these films are nearly as good. Jaws is a true classic and the others are just basically rip-offs.

ive heard a new film called "the host" is meant to have that same suspense, but i can highly reccomend "the butterfly effect 1 & 2" for some gd full on suspense with a dose of OMG i didnt see that coming!
if u like a bit of gore i can also suggest the following: the grudge 1&2 japanese version & english version, the jap version can be viewed in english and is well scary and shocking, much more than the english re-make. the ring 1&2, pans labyrinth, Pulse (the new version), the mothman prophecies and gothica.
happy watching!

god there are loads. The one that comes close to the suspense of Jaws would have to be Deep Blue Sea.
But there are some good Shark films out there like Megladon, Shark Attack, Shark Zone, for example. Seek them out they are worth watching.
I love Jaws and i love Sharks so i'm telling you that these are worth looking at. Well thats Shark films.
Oh yeah that one that someone mentioned about the squid that was a rip off of Jaws was called THE BEAST and it was also done by peter benchley. It was a good TV movie though.
But for the suspense check out Frankenfish, Alligator, 28 weeks later

There are many films that are similar to Jaws, after all Jaws was such a mega hit there was always going to be rip offs.
If you want to know the best I would suggest Piranha. It's very cheap but it has a wicked sense of humour and was made by some important names of the cinema (who at the time were just cutting their teeth).
It's directed by Joe Dante (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Dante) who went on to direct Gremlins 1+2, Explorers, InnerSpace and The 'Burbs (to name a few) and written by John Sayles (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Sayles). The Sequel was appalling and is only notable because it was made by James Cameron (Terminator, True Lies, Aliens, Titantic etc)

There is a film called "Deep Blue Sea". It came out in the late 80's and has a shark plot as well. A few big stars in movie are Thomas Jane, LL Cool J, and Samuel L. Jackson. There is one more out there simmilar, but cant think of right now.

Deep Blue Sea is very good, genuine shocks and scary moments Samuel L Jackson is in it, Shark Attack is not bad Red Water is another shark movie, similar but with a giant 30ft alligator is Lake Placid which is scary with black humour in parts

Finding Nemo
Seriously though, try watching Duel,Spielberg directed this before Jaws.It was about a huge truck which terrorised a bloke across the desert. the truck is portrayed as a monster, similar to the shark in Jaws.Definitely worth watching
