A planet's spin has little effect on its orbit. The plane of the ecliptic comes about because the more or less balanced forces between planets as they orbit the Sun tends to make their orbits oscillate about a "mean" plane. The solution of the 2-body problem is planar, i. e. two dimensional, although the differential equations are three dimensional.
