my personal favorite is What's Goin' On - Marvin Gaye

but there are lots of songs with deal with social issues...
Blowin' in the Wind -Bob Dylan
Abraham, Martin, and John - Dion
Sounds of Silence - Simon and Garfunkel
Fortunate Son - Creedance Clearwater
Russians - Sting
Billy Joel wrote several: Allentown, Goodnight Saigon, Leningrad, We Didn't Start the Fire:, Downeaster Alexa
(not sure of the year on some of these)

Womens' issues
"I Am Woman" - Helen Reddy is the most common and overdone song.
but all social issues have to do with women.

Helen Reddy's, "I am Woman" was at the #1 Billboard postion in 1972. She was an Australian born vocalist working for Capitol Records in the United States, wrote and recorded this song that would become an "anthem" for the women's movement.

I would suggest "Society's Child" by Janis Ian.
You can probablyget it from I tunes. My copy is from a music CD entitles 45s on Cd published by Verve records.
Unfortunately I know of now specifc songs revolving on the womens movement as such, that is specifically political, but you might try a movie theme, such as the soundtrack from "Coffee" or "Big Bad Mama"

Won't Get Fooled Again by The Who
Its about the Vietman War/Conflict not about the womans movement. Arguably, one of the best rock songs of all time.

I would look up the popular artists, not search for the song. Yes, H. Reddy. Look up Joni Mitchell and Joan Baez.

that song "You Don't Own Me" by Leslie Gore is a good one about female independence ,as well as Nancy Sinatra's "These Boots Are Made For Walking" i believe they were both made in the mid to late 60s! try looking 4 them on eMusic or that site iLike.com! good luck ;-)
