80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.

To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

In the 20th and 21st centuries, the meaning of life is the hunt for money, in the previous centuries, the meaning of life was the hunt for food and shelter. People nowadays have to much time to be rich and party when they should be concentrating on the essentials of life.

I would rather live in a teepee and hunt buffalo, than live in a mansion.

There is no meaning.

However the best PURPOSE we can acheive in this life is to make things better for those that come after us.
Its not necessary that those who come after us are our own children, although that helps us to have a closer feeling with them, but it is simply necessary for them to be affected in a positive sense by what we have done beforehand.
( It is therefore not even necessary for us to be dead for them to be considered as after us)

There is no likelihood that anything that we do is liable to acheive an absolute and final solution, so all we can hope for is that our actions can be considered positive in the general progession.

We acheive what we can, and no more.

Most of us have very little influence on the progression of humanity, but all if you add us all together, every little helps.

I believe the "meaning of life" is what you make it to be. if you decide to make a difference in this world then thats your meaning of life. others might think the meaning of life is nothing but a dream, but then that is their meaning of life. the meaning of life is completely different to each single individual therefore only you can find the answer to the meaning of life!!! Good luck!

What is the meaning of life or what is the meaning of existence. The reason you exist is to give pleasure to God. When you yourself have a child, the only reason you have that child, is for your own pleasure. You love that child and the child reciprocates your love, the pleasure is in that love and respiration. The reason you exist is to love God, and the meaning of life is to realise that.
