My new cd drive will not read and i cant install drivers !!!?

hi, i just installed a new dvd-rom drive unto my old computer because my old one was broken and my windows will not start and the only way to fix it is through reinstalling the OS with my xp discs. But when i put a bootable disc in, it wont read the drive. I know floppy gets read automatically, but dont you need to install the drivers for an optical drive before the computer recognizes it? If not, then its just a bad boot disc, if so then how can i fix this. This drive is oem and came with no cd or anything.

an i tried ordering the boot sequence as well on my setup screen at bios to cd-rom first.

First make sire the NEW DVD drive has same Master / slave setting on the jumper on it's read as the old one had b4 proceeding.
Power on PC, should hsay something like "Press Del to enter setup" press (as it says)

Locate "boot sequence" and set it to boot from CD 1st

save and exit and reboot.
IF the CD IS bootable it will load.

Make sure you have the correct master/slave setting.

If you do in order to boot from it you need to go into your BIOS and set the boot order to CD Rom drive first HDD second and then you will be able to boot from a cd.

each and all of the drivers you want are on the homestead windows disc. have you ever tried besides from the homestead windows disc on the faultypersistent? I easily have had CD drives that did no longer artwork simply by fact the homestead windows setting up became corrupt. as quickly as I put in homestead windows with a distinctpersistent I switched to the faultypersistent and it worked completely. All i'm saying is do no longer toss it. Hook the workingpersistent up on the edge of the case and set up homestead windows. Then plug in the badpersistent and that i will wager it particularly is going to now artwork.
