What makes this person have this power over you? Why do you consider yourself less valuable? These people that are popular are not better than you and you should not be such a push over. These people are just users and abusers when it comes to using their popularity. You will be surprised years later when you go to your 10 year reunion. You will find that these people are such losers once they get out of school. They have skated on their popularity at school that when it comes to the real world, they don't know how to swim. Don't think that they can use you for their enjoyment or things of yours. A true friend would reciprocate with help for you when you need it. Start practicing the word no in the mirror and then start using it when it's appropriate. You are just as important as anybody else. Popularity is not that important as your self respect.

I doubt it is a mental issue, but it is an esteeem issue. You must feel that these people have more worth or value than you do. And this will soon get you into a VERY dangerous or hurtful situation if it has not already. So, go to a girl's group (I am assuming you are a teenage girl??) at school, or preferable go to GIRLS, INC. at the YMCA or YWCA nearest you. If you can't do that, call your local hotline for a referral to a teen girl's group. Groups are very motivating and will boost your self confidence. THAT is what this is about. Try this: It is an old public speaking/acting technique! Next time someone asks you for something, picture them standing there in their "underwear"! It's pretty easy to see them as "just another person" this way, and may be easier to say "no" when you want to or need to!

you have the people pleasing sydrome.
i have it to.
it has to do with dignity and selfrespect. you are just insecure.
when you get more confidence you will be able to say no and not feel guilty about it.
maybe you can start practicing on this popular girl.
just figure, she's popular, therefore someone else will likely lend her a pencil.
but you don't have to be wrapped around her finger.

try this. get another notebook that looks like your diary and copy your less embarrassing thoughts onto the paper. Or you can make stuff up. like, "today my little sister spilled orange juice on my favorite shirt! I am sooo mad I want to kill her! but mom cleaned the stain off. thank god!" or just dont show it to the person.

Treat it like a joke when that person asks. They're just testing to see if you will be a dork and go along with it. If you laugh and say no, they'll know you're cool.

You need to practice saying no, stand in front of a mirror and say no over and over again, until you get it, I used to have this problem.
