Hmmm.... brandish weapons or recall a tune that supports reminiscing the days of slavery? I'd have to go against the active participation in violence.
I have an ancestor who married a daughter in the John C. Calhoun family. The family never really included him; not owning any slaves.
The intolerable acts perpetuated the South's dependence on slavery based agriculture as it protected the industrial economy of the North. Southerners against slavery still blamed the North for their continued poverty.
I still, however, consider Dixie as an offensive song. People in groups waxing nostalgic about a time when a race of people were considered property could only come across as threatening.
It's just a terrible choice all around.
