It's actually rather easy. All you need is water, malt, hops and yeast.

Malt is boiled in water for however long the ricepe calls for. Many ingredients can be added to the malt in any time in the boiling process. At this time, it is called a wort. Durring the last stages of boiling, hops are added for what ever flavouring is desired The wort is cooled and a specific gravety reading is taken to determine the amount of fermentable sugars are present. Once at ideal temperature, the wort is transfered into a carboy. A large container with a sealed opening where the wort will ferment. Yeast is added to the wort and immediately after, the carboy is sealed. The seal allows gas to leave the carboy but not for air to come in. Yeast is living bacteria. It eats the sugars, mates and increases numbers by over 1000 times in less than 24 hours. In the eating, mating and dieing process the yeast bacteria cells go through, they make alchohol and carbonation. Lastly, the fresh batch of beer is left to age in a seperate carboy. Just before bottling, the beer is transfered to a large container with a little bit of yeast in it. This is to activate the beer and give it that crisp, cool taste. It is then bottled, canned or kegged and is ready to enjoy.

Sorry it took so long but making beer is a hobby and passion of mine. I have made over 200 batches of home made beer and could go on and on. This is a very brief explanation.

Cheers.
