I've asked the same question myself. Some people just don't realize that this type of behavior diminishes their credibility and makes them appear ignorant, not informed.

Sorry, I have to argue this one: "Neo-Con" is short for "Neo-Conservative" (New Conservative) which IS a political movement and not meant to be an insult.
The rest I agree are insults... along with "Rethuglican" that I've heard a few times.

I am not sure why people think they need to degrade others with a different point of view.

These 'ditto heads' who can't think for themselves have been conditioned by the likes of Rush Limbaugh and Shawn Hannity to simply be loud, boisterous, obnoxious and mean-spirited. That precludes them from having to respectfully listen to other viewpoints, for fear they might learn something, or might not be able to effectively and successfully debate any of the important issues facing this country today.
Such childish, immature behavior is typical of propagandists. Hitler ranted and raved the very same way Limbaugh does. If Limbaugh would respectfully listen to another's point of view, he'd be out of business. It's the hyperbole, the meanness, the hate, bigotry, distortions, lies, fabrications, and bias that inflames his listeners and turns them into lemmings. -RKO- 05/19/07

Your point is well taken, however, take Neo-Con out of the examples. Neo Conservatism, right or wrong, is a genuine, established political philosophy. Look it up-it is particularly important to understanding today's foreign policies.

Because it is easier than having a rational discussion. They just call a few names and think that they have somehow scored points for their side by insulting others.

Yeah it's pretty silly...but then you have those folks who ask a question just so they can attack the person answering it and denigrate their response.
Those folks are actually worse than the name callers in my opinion.

I've often wondered why politicians in America are so marginalized, narrow minded and vindictive. I think it's because they accurately reflect the people they represent.
