when older rose is in bed is she dying or just dreaming?

According to writer/director James Cameron ...

... it's up to you. He deliberately left it ambiguous so that each person seeing the movie can interpret it however they wish. The exact wording of the scene in the script for "Titanic" is: "She is very still. She could be sleeping, or maybe something else."

My personal belief (based on Jack's line "you'll die an old woman, warm in your bed", among other clues) is that she died.

However, there is NO correct answer to this question.

Ah that question - maybe one of the most asked when that film came out!

I think she was dying, because if you look at all the people she dreams of they're all the ones that died in the film which I think was done on purpose to make a point. Also, Rose had just wrapped up her life by telling her story and getting rid of The Diamond so dying would seem to be the obvious finish.

She could be sleeping or maybe something else. She could be fulfilling Jack's promise that she will "die an old lady warm in bed". The romantic spirituality of the film would allow Rose to be united with Jack and the other victims. Perhaps it's a dream or Heaven itself.

She is dying and when she goes back to the ship for the last time and Jack is waiting at the clock for her. Just like the note he gave Rose when he ate dinner with the rest of the first class clan. It said meet me at the clock. And after she's lived her life and done everything she's meeting him back at the clock to be with him in the after life. Make sense? If you notice everyone thats on the ship in the last scene are all the people that died on the ship.

she's dying. cause Leo (Jack) tells her that she wont die in the water but she'll live a long life and die an old lady asleep in her bed etc etc...so it shows her in her bed an old lady dying quietly in her sleep, then when she dies you'll notice that all the people who died on the ship are there to greet her including Jack...i love that part, always makes me cry lol

I think she is dying. Because at the end she threw her most prized possession in the ocean to give it back to Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) and then she goes to heaven with her love.

I just watched the movie. I think she is dying and that is why she was telling the story.
