Shiloh is a Hebrew word, so I blame it on the Jews.

The Battle of Shiloh occurred because the Union was concentrating Grant's Army of the Tennessee at Pittsburg Landing on the Tennessee River and waiting for Buell's Army of the Ohio to link up with it. Confederate Gen. Albert Sidney Johnston saw an opportunity to hit Grant's army before the linkup occurred, then turn on Buell's army and crush it as well. It's called defeating your enemy in detail. What ended up happening was that the Confederates took a couple of days too long to get there and still gave Grant quite a scare. But in the evening of the first day of the Battle of Shiloh the leading elements of Buell's army began to arrive and on the second day of the battle Grant counterattacked and the outnumbered rebels were driven back and lost all their gains of the first day.

Maybe if you'd listed some of your impressions, we'd be more inclined to think you *have* done some research. Where did you do your research? Online? It's sometimes hard to choose between websites. *Don't* use Wikipedia; teachers don't accept it because anyone can change any article at any time.

Try your library. Start with an encyclopedia, then looks for books specifically on the Battle of Shiloh.

Good luck!
