Kind of an odd query and I'm sorry if some find it gross but menstruation is a natural part of female life and this question just popped in my head one day and I got curious enough I thought I'd ask.

Menstruation occurs in the female members of order--Primates of class Mammalia, which include monkeys, apes and humans. Rest of the mammals like cow, bitch etc undergo oestrous cycle called also as 'Heat'. These animals have a specific period during which they undergo breeding by inviting their respective males. It may be spring, summer, autumn etc. Some animals like cow has heat throughout the year.

I wouldn't call it menustration as much as discharge as they come into heat. Cats don't ovulate until the barbed penis shocks their system, just as dolphins ovulate only after they've been belly stroked four or five times, so naturally they wouldn't have menustration before that. Very few animals come into season without a partner (if they have a choice) and once impregnated, they have no reason to menustrate. I know nothing about apes and monkeys but I would assume in the wilds it's not a wise thing to pass cells or blood and catch the attention of a jaguar or leopard.

A lot of wild animals that live in climates where there is a winter have their babies in the spring which means there is a time period in the fall when they can get pregnant and the baby develops in the female over the winter.
For examples bears get pregnant in the fall before they go into hibernation.
Deer also mate in the fall.
I believe the only animals that go through monthly cycles are primates. Monkeys, chimps, gorillas.

Only female mammals go through menstruation.

It's just mammals, because menstruation is when the 'swollen' vagina is losing the extra blood? that would' ve been needed to support the egg in the body and to keep it warm. But cold blooded animals lay eggs, and keep them warm through incubation--or sitting/hugging (on) the egg. And they do not need to carry extra blood. Why do you think chickens don't bleed when they lay eggs?!

Pretty much a mammal thing. I believe that are mammals which do not participate in the ritual also. I hear they are pretty happy about that.

Humans and primates go through the menstrual cycle. Other mammals go through the estrous cycle.

I think it's only female humans. Most animals can't afford the energy loss of it. Also for most animals when the egg is ready, it's reproduction time. You can't waste a good egg in the jungle.
