Where can i get Avenue trees seeds... (all varities) I would like to grow sapplings for free distirbution.?

I want to give free sapplings to people who are interested in avenue trees..... And I would like to adopt some streets, avenues for planting avenue trees...... Please help where will i get seeds and sapplings......and also I need tips and guidance for mainting the nursery...... thanks

I am not sure what an Avenue tree is. However if you are talking about Maples that are often planted along streets, there are thousands of their seeds that fall down (spin like helicopters as they fall). Just sweep up a pailful of those from under a maple tree and get them started for do-it-yourself saplings. Similarly if you are looking for oaks to plant gather a bunch of acorns from the street (before the squirrels get them) and plant those to start oak saplings.

Go to any Municipality run nursery or Forest Dept nursery or PWD run nursery. If you are in Mumbai, you can get them from Aarey Colony nursery, Byculla zoo nursery, SGNP forest nursery etc. Usually organisations like Friends of Trees and similar, have tree plantation drives during which time they distribute these saplings free of cost. Plant at onset of monsoons and they will establish well. Avenue type trees do not require any great maintenance and grow well in plastic nursery bags for a couple of years before requiring transplanting. best bet is Municipality horti dept.

Probably the Arbor Day Foundation would be your best bet for the acquirement of trees that will do well in your area. http://www.arborday.org/ I gave a donation to them, and they sent me so many trees, and they survived nicely. They are quite tall now, and I like that they sent me information on each variety as well.

As far as starting your own nursery, you have to have a license in order to buy and sell nursery stock.... And maybe someone else could help you out with how to adopt a city street or avenue(s)...I wouldn't have the faintest of where to start on that.

This job is already done by the dept of forests of the respective state governments in India.

Your intentions are laudable. The departments fail in the delivery part.

You can do a yeoman service by facilitating people to get the saplings from the department. Meet the concerned chief of forests; explain your scheme; and get the saplings to the people who want them.

This way you need not handle the infrastructure and get on to your goal directly.

You can go one better by giving them additional info on the planting and care of the trees till they can hold their own.
