dont worry they are harmless. they can actually help keep down the rodent population. if its bothering you just chase it off with a broom, remember its more afraid of you than you are of it.

Enjoy it.

Black racers can be aggressive under three circumstances.... being cornered, threatened or captured. I've found that the easiest way to catch them is to corner them and put your hand in striking distance. Basically instead of you catching the snake, it catches you.

It's cruising around, doing what black racers do... basically, eating whatever they come across that fits in their mouth about once a week. You've probably got a very nice yard, and snakes like nice yards... plenty of bushes to hide in, things to hide underneath, maybe a pond or other water source... you're lucky, a lot of people don't have snakes living in their yards and they're missing out whether they realize it or not.

If you have kids, let them know that there's a black racer living in the yard, and that they shouldn't mess with it. Chances are, they'll never see it anyway, kids make too much noise to sneak up on a snake, normally.

Really, this is a sign of a very healthy ecosystem, and as I said earlier, I'd just enjoy it if I were you.

Most of the other responders have given you the best advice alreay-leave it alone and ignore it, and it will go away. It's not capable of hurting you, any kids or pets(unless you have a pet rodent or small lizard that has free roaming priviledges in the yard), so whoever suggested locking the doors with all the kids and pets inside is in need of some major psychiatric help! Black Racers are harmless and will generally take off at the first sign of a human approaching.

If you know this is a black racer, just leave it alone...though they may look scary, they are not venomous. It may just be looking for a food or water source, (not you). Snakes actually help by keeping rodents out of our homes. But if you can't get used to sharing your yard with this snake, call a pest removal service. I think they will just relocate it somewhere else. But please don't kill it. We have one at our house, it doesnt bother anyone.

As usual everybody is giving the right advice. (gosh you're all good lol)

Any animal at all that is in its natural habitat should be left right there. If it was injured and the SPCA came and cared for it, they would more than likely ask you if they could put it back in your garden anyways. So you may aswell leave it. As everyone said, just warn the kids that its there and leave it alone.

You wouldnt wanna be taken out of your home and dumped somewhere random.

LEAVE IT!!!

there's nothing to do about it. its in its natural habitat so leave it alone. besides, its most likely getting rid of pests around your house.

Leave it alone and it will probably go away on its own. If not, at least you won't have a mouse problem...
