Just plug 40 into the equation.

y = 0.25x + 8
y = 0.25 (40) + 8
y = 10 + 8
y = $18

The question tells you that x stands for the units per hour. Later it tells you that the employee produces 10 units per hour. So replace the x with 10 and you get- y = 0.85(10) + 8 simplify the multiplication part first- y = 8.50 + 8 then do the addition y = 16.50 so the hourly wage is $16.50 per hour
