..a) Has Very high tax rates such as Belgium, Sweden, Germany etc. but it comes with all kinds of social security..unemployment benefits, free medical, free housing - of course you're earning well it's a torture as your money is going after freeloaders.

THE ACTUAL COUNTRIES ARE IMMATERIAL - I am talking of just a system in place.

b) Very low tax countries/negligible taxes on your earnings - e.g. Singapore, Maldives, Mauritius, Thailand - of course,. no security if you don't have the dough

--
Don't mention USA as it is somewhere in between - give a precise answer between two extreme choices.

Well, given that I live in a but I work a full time job, haven't needed hospital treatment since I was born, pay for my own dental work, have 20/20 vision and have to rent because I can't afford a place of my own because nearly 50% of my total wages goes on taxes to pay for those who just want to sit on their backsides and let the "system" take care of them....

I'm going to say b. I work hard and I should be rewarded, not punished for doing so.

I got a portion of mine from a book called the History of Sex by Reay Tannahill. Pages 285-286 were interesting where it said when Spain was occupied by Muslims, passive homosexual partners were a familiar sight and it was generally believed that no pilgrimage to Mecca was complete unless the pilgrimage whiled away the journey by having intercourse with his camel boys and camels. Also there is a chapter devoted to Islam which talks about harems and eunuchs where males genitalia were destroyed very frequently. This can be found on pages 229-254. I am sure there are many good Muslim people in the world, however most of the world do not agree with the way women are treated or the barbaric animalistic way that terrorists have portraid themselves on a daily basis through out the world. Car bombs, suicide bombings, be-headings.

I think I will go for B.

It is because I believe if a country have too much social benefits then the people will start to go lazy.
It will ended up just like communism, everyone will think 'Why should I work so hard? The government will take care of me anyway!', then the result will being the lack of progress in the society.

The citizens may also feel that they are not rewarded for the quality of their efforts, and thus they see no point in achieving better quality of work. Innovation will also be pointless if one doesn't see any personally benefit from the innovation.

B - I would not understand what security means to me in my life if I lived there or if I were born there! I might be a happier person! No need to worry much about "what if" ...

I'm on my own, I work hard and support myself, and if I were lazy, I would turn to be a looser and would die for hunger.

Thailand or Maldives .. isn't bad at all.. I can jump into the sea and catch some fish for dinner! hahahaha... ! The living cost (Thailand) is a lot cheaper than Europe... far far cheaper!

I'd pick a). I think it is the responsibility of the wealthy to help the poor. Not everyone is poor by choice (certainly, the children are not), and you never know when you are going to need the security yourself. Anything could happen: you could become permanently disabled through a car crash or some other catastrophe, you could be laid off, etc. There are no guarantees in life, and everyone deserves to be able to have the basics necessities of life, including medical treatment. Children have a right to be taken care of regardless of how much money their parents make.

As a side note, it costs less money in the long run to pay higher taxes for free medical treatment than it does to pay health insurance. My health insurance just for my son and myself is outrageous and far outweighs what I pay in taxes. And we all know how expensive medical care is if you have no insurance. I'll step down off my soapbox now.

I believe a social security system is very important so I would opt for the first one.

a for sure. my cousin lives in one of the countries stated in b and she's complaining about the damn taxes paid to the government for nothing and the restriction about freedom of speech.

I'll pick choice number A, thanks Bob. Call me a flaming pinko, but I reckon people who are out on their luck deserve human rights, not just the wealthy. It's actually a pretty easy choice to make - do you care about other people or just yourself?
