He has seen numerous R-rated films and is quite mature but the rating reasons seem a bit strong.

I think it really depends on how much you can trust them. You should let them decide if it is appropriate while they are watching it. For instance, if they find it too gory they should turn it off.

Okay, I watched R rated movies from the time I was about 7. I think he'll love the movie. The only thing I will warn you about, is there is a sex scene in the film (not extremely explicit or anything), and while I'm not prudish in the slightest way, I will say a 13 year old boy might feel a little uncomfortable watching it with his parents. I'm just giving you a heads up that there might be an uncomfortable silence or red faces during the scene. I know it was always the case when I watched films like that with my parents. The violence was no biggy, but the sex scenes were a little awkward. If he's watching the film on his own, it should be no problem.

It all depends on the kid, if you think he is mature enough and can handle it then go ahead. It really isn't all that violent it is less violent then Goodfellas or Casino. After all it is up to you as her parent to determine what he can see or not.

no, a little too violent and he may not understand it. I'm not one to say children shouldn't watch movies like that but you may want to wait a year or two until he sees that one

It is very violent throughout! Lots of blood and cussing. He'll love it! ;-)
