Can I play the original DVDs imported from Korea on my regular DVD player in California?

Nope. The 'region codes' are not the same. The USA uses 'region 1' dvds. Now, if you know how, you can change the region code the dvd player will play. It's easier to change on a computer but most computer dvd players will only let you change this 5 times. So if you change it to watch Korean movies, then back to watch regular movies, this will count as 2 changes. Whatever code it's set for during the 5th change will be the permanent setting, so if , say, region 3 is that 5th change, then that's all your dvd player will play after that point. good luck Oh, if you have the knowledge, then you can take the Korean dvd and 'rip' it using dvd shrink and dvd shrink will let you change the region BEFORE ripping the dvd. Then you can just burn the ripped file back to dvd and have a Korean dvd with a Region 1 code that will play in your dvd player WITHOUT having to change any dvd player settings... :-)
