remember the good old days when kelly hrudey or cujo would get nailed coming out of the crease to play the puck,I say hit them and hit them hard ,they have more protection then anyone on the ice!

With the lack of respect we have seen lately with some players can you imagine what they would try to do to goalies? Problem #1 is they would also take liberties with them in the crease and then argue they stepped outside it. If it were to be allowed and I was playing with Buffalo I would just smoke Emery as many times as it took to make sure he couldnt play the rest of the series....if i were a Sen. I would do the same to Miller any chance I got. Look at some of the cheap shots that have happened in this years playoffs (I would list them all but it would take all day) and now make the goalies fair game? With the salary cap we would watch 10-8 games (bush league) because teams couldnt afford enough goalies and they would be getting called up from the ECHL or worse. We have enough bad goalies already starting in the NHL (you know which teams they are playing for). There arent 30 elite goalies now....take some of them out and we have beer league goalies playing important roles on NHL teams! Now it isnt even hockey anymore! Hockey right now is bad enough with the rule changes that make it impossible for teams to protect their players after cheap shots because the instigator rule (stupid rule...if someone crosses the line they deserve to get their As* kicked) and hockey should not protect those guys. Running goalies is a bad idea....I play and couldnt imagine being a goalie and having to worry about getting smoked (which happens far too often anyways in the crease) just to play a puck. What about 2 on 1 breakaways....if the goalie leaves the net to cut down the angle why wouldnt the puck carrier just bring the puck right up close to the goalie and make a quick pass just before he lays the goalie out? Easy goal every time, how good are your teams 4th and 5th goalies....after you pay the big money to see your team that is who will be in net come Feb. (I know how much I pay for a ticket and I would not be happy to go see our 4th goalie in net).

As much as I'd love to see some goalies get smoked, probably not great for the game. I totally agree with you about the good old days, but guys just seem to have gotten bigger, stronger and faster in the last 10-15 years. I think at any given time half the goaltenders in the league would be injured if they were fair game. Don't get me wrong though, I'd love to see somebody take Ryan Miller or the Dominator down.

I have played in goal for a long time and taken a lot of cheap hits in those situations. One of which seriously hurt me. There was nothing i could do, i was in a vulnerable spot but i had to play the puck.

So, what you want to see is more injuries? Just youtube malarchuck's skate to the throat if youre looking for a bloodbath.

No way, horrible idea.

They have more protection, which means they also can't move as fast. Other players are also 1,000 times more replaceable than a hurt goalie. I don't have a problem with the goalie being protected by the rules.

tom, try putting on a mask and do it. playing goalie is no joke, there is an area that should protect goalies

goalies are tough they need to be or just more guys with a set like hextall, he took no beef from anyone, he would beat down anyone, robbie brown was my favorite.

No, a goalie is too encumbered to be able to take a hit well, dodge, and give one back.

i would love to see a goalie get it good behind the net. Yes if there out of there behind the net you should be able to but not infront. thats just my opinion.
