Larryboy and the bad apple PS2 help me?

This is soooo bad! A child's game and I can't even help my son get through it. He gets about 20minutes into it and we can't get past this point. We come to this chocalate river with numbered cookies and a drawbridge. This bad cupcake lady calls a number and all but one disappear and he dies. ANYONE ONE KNOW WHAT I AM DOING WRONG? I feel so stupid. Please help me.

The bad apple calls out a number and counts up to it. You need to wait on the
platform of that number before she counts up to it. The other platforms sink
at this point. The platforms are 6, 5, 8, 4.
