Hmmm. I can't help with the 50s, but I have made a few disco compilations in my time.

The compilation must begin with:
Thelma Houston - Don't Leave Me This Way

Freda Payne - Band of Gold (the first disco song)
Amii Stewart - Knock on Wood
Donna Summer - I Feel Love (queen of disco deserves 2)
Donna Summer - Heaven Knows
Yvonne Elliman - If I can't Have You
Bee Gees - Stayin' Alive (kings of disco deserve 2)
Bee Gees - Night Fever
Blondie - Heart of Glass
ABBA - Take a Chance on Me
Carl Carlton - Everlasting Love
Hues Corporation - Rock the Boat
Leo Sayer - You Make Me Feel Like Dancing
Gloria Gaynor - I Will Survive
Kelly Marie - Feels Like I'm in Love
Maxine Nightingale - Right Back Where We Started From

The compilation must end with:
Supertramp - Goodbye Stranger

And please note the absence of Village People and KC & the Sunshine Band. These will surely ruin any disco compilation.

You should have made it two separate questions. I can't name a single disco song.
These are upbeat from the R&R era,not necessarily my favourites,as I also like R&R ballads

Schools is out - Gary U.S. Bonds
Let's Jump The Broomstick - Brenda Lee
High School Confidential - Jerry Lee Lewis
Settin'The Woods On Fire - Johnny Burnette
Long Tall Sally - Little Richard
Chantilly Lace - Big Bopper
Stagger Lee - LLoyd Price
Nothin' Shakin' (but the leaves on a tree) - Eddie Fontain
Somethin'Else - Eddie Cochran
Dr Feelgood - Dr Feelgood & the Interns
