The asker is ignorant of the answer so he is not qualified to select the most accurate answer. It seems to be a waste of time participating in this exercise.

This is the problem with this type of forum -- if you look around, you'll find lots of people who ask questions merely to find someone whose answer matches their own pre-conceived notion -- even if it is completely wrong. Look at all the Apollo Conspiracy Theory nutcases we have right here in this section, or go to Politics and look at all the idiots who think that Bush pulled off the 9/11 attacks.

But there are certainly some folks who are honestly looking for a good answer, and then you just have to examine credentials to see who's got the most credibility.

For instance, when I answer a chemistry question, I generally include a reference that can be checked independently. Over time, people have come to trust my answers there.

The asker is the one who requires the answer. How would anyone else know how helpful the answer was? If the asker doesn't pick a best answer, it's up to voters to decide. What could be better than that? I think you are just one of those people who aren't happy unless you have something to whine about.
