I thank them for the invitation and tell them sincerely that I'd like to but I have way too much going on right now and am unable. But when things slow down maybe we can get together then. This way I'm covered for if they see me elsewhere.Sometimes I say nicely "Please ask me again another time, when I'll be able to enjoy your company more.Things are too hectic right now." These always work for me Angel, they should for you as well. But I do love the question so you are getting a star. You are a Star !

grandparents birthday party
wedding of distant cousin
parents birthday party

See you don't have to invite anyone to a parents or grandparents birthday party and no one will ever question you. Trust me it works like a charm? You have two sets of grand parents so you can have four parties, and two parents two birthdy parties. that's six great excuses per year.

Tell them you had a previous engagement and were already committed. Thank them for the invitation. If it was a shower, wedding, graduation, etc., send a gift.
