B it is. After WWII Russia controlled a buffer zone of Eastern European Countries (i.e. Poland, East Germany, Romania, Estonia, etc.). These countries had the "distinct honor" of becoming the Warsaw Pact with Mother Russia pulling the strings. The idea was that if war broke out again an enemy would have to fight its way through this buffer zone to get to Russia.

answer is B. During WW2 the USSR was invaded so easily by the Germans. They decided that they needed a buffer zone between them and the rest of Europe, just in case another war broke out. We also might assume the Warsaw Pact as a counter againt NATO or the Truman Doctrine, which sought to stop the spread of Communism.
