how much more money are they going to spend on these worthless study projects. Who needs to knnow why grass is green or why a monkey's brain doesn't function the same as humans? How about things moreimportant than those?

I agree: what is more important?
The problem with many non-scientists is that they only want to know how this is going to help humans. Why not study something for its own sake? Aren't other manifestations of life important, too?
It's probably true anyway that such information would help humans in one way or another. For example, if we want to know why plants are green, then we'll discover how to make them greener ----> read, how they can do more photosynthesis, so that they grow bigger (provide more food) and make more oxygen. The monkey brain thing: if we can detect differences, then we can study those particular regions of the human brain in more detail to try and improve/understand them better.
Again, people need to not take such an anthrocentric view of the world. We are NOT the only organisms here; we're sharing it with everything else. In the meantime, we're destroying it for everything else. I say that the most important research to be done invovles preserving the world, not enhancing humans' ability to burn it to the ground.
