If you think Washington is liberal, take a look at Wisconsin.
In any case, major hydroelectric power and there by, major military and civilian aircraft production, major center for art glass, beautiful scenery. Major supplier of wheat. A couple of nice sized World's Fairs (Spokane and Seattle).

Well, the Boeing company and Microsoft were both founded in Washington State. So the bombers that helped win WWII were invented there (the B-17 and the B-29) and the bomber that protected the U.S. during the Cold War (the B-52) was invented there as well. So was the Windows operating system. Also, it seems that the $5 cup of coffee came from there (Starbucks). Washington is not the most liberal state, several of the New England States (Massachusetts, Vermont), California, and Oregon all vie for that particular title. Bill Gates, Paul Allen, and Howard Schultz, three of the richest men in the world all come from Seattle. Bing Crosby, Jimi Hendrix, Matt Groening, and Gary Larson all are from Washington State. The University of Washington in Seattle is a top-rated research institution and gets more federal research money thany any other university in the country. This is hardly an exhaustive list, but if you don't think Boeing, Microsoft, Starbucks, Bing Crosby, Jimi Hendrix, etc. have been economically, culturally or politically important, then I really don't know what to say. Washington is also one of the most important agricultural states in the Union and leads the nation in production of several different important crops (including hops).

The last of the New Deal/Fair Deal conservative Democrats was senator Henry 'Scoop' Jackson, was a Washington native.

After senator 'Scoop' Jackson the democratic party deteriorated into the current commie/socialist special interest group 'whacko' party the Democrats are today.
