No, in fact they should be proud of their Dark Ages history. That was a time when Christians took up crusades against the marauding Islamic hordes.
We could use a good Crusade today.

Well swampthing is totally oblivious about history.
Please open a history book - putting stuff on the interent does not make you smart, you have to study first.
1) The 'Dark Ages' is an inaccurate term which historians now use to mean "dark as in we lack insight into this time compared to others" because the idea of the horrible dark ages full of bad Christians was made up by ignorant enlightenment writers.
2) The witch-burnings (actually 90% of them were hangings despite the claims of people like swampthing who have not studied history claim) were largely a reaction of the Church to the common people. The common people had many primitive pre-Christian ideas about witches and magic that caused them to DEMAND that the Church kill off the witches. The average person was in fact very happy about the witch hunts and they believed in their importance because of pre-Christian pagan ideas, not because the Church told them to. The Church was constantly trying to cool the hunts as the people demanded more 'protection'. Most executions were carried out by secular local governments not church officials.
Like I said, learn some basic history than ask another question.

First of all, true Christians will recognize the atrocities in the past. Christians are no different than other people of faith. Christians oftentimes commit acts that are despicable in the sight of God. Even stories in the Bible point to that fact. That's why Jesus had to come so that we all may have a chance at salvation. Because humanity overall is despicable and deserves to go to hell. So, Christians know full well that a lot of things that were done in the name of Christ were just wrong. But I pray that we all confess and repent of our ways in order that we may be saved.

They went through a reformation.
They no longer (with rare exceptions) believe in the infallability and utter truth of the Bible.
Islam still does. They still embrace the same methods, as well.
They're well aware of it. They even denounced it.
Are you oblivious to the last several centuries, or do you just pretend they didn't happen?
I'm not a Christian, I'm not even religious, but I'm not so silly that I can't see what Christianity has done right for the world (being the largest charitable contributor the world has ever known).
What have you done?

Real Christians had nothing to do with the dark ages.
Christ would have had nothing to do with the Inquisition.
These events, the Witch Craze, Inquisition, and the extermination of Cathars, Albigensians and other heretics in France were about politics and authoritarian power.-
I don't doubt for a minute some American evangelicals in the dominionist and Christian nationalist movements would hesitate if they could create a theocracy in the US... as long as they were in charge.

What people have done in the past in the name of religion often times has nothing to do with religion itself.
A study of Christianity will reveal that what has been done is not reflected anywhere in our Bible. Most of what happened went against the teachings of Christ.
Are we oblivious to it?
No.
Do we agree with what happened?
No.
We just keep in mind that what was done in the name of Christianity had nothing to do with Christianity.

You could also say that white men are despicable for taking the Indian's land illegally. In fact my city was started that way. Does that stop me from leaving? No. I don't think me leaving will solve any problems.
There has to be some God-blessed moments that bring good. All we can do is head in the right direction.

Many people did a lot of damage supposedly in the name of Christ but one of the reasons that the Dark Ages is called that, is that no-one really knows what happened. People are always quick to judge Christians for persecution while they conveniently forget that Christians were persecuted and massacred in huge numbers. When pagans put them to death in some of the most horrible ways ever recorded, people came in their thousands to watch and even took their children to watch the 'entertainment'

I don't think they pretend that religious atrocities never happened in the name of Christianity, but the religion has and continues to evolve as people become more spiritually aware.

Precisely what is it the Christians, or anybody else for that matter, supposed to do about something that happened 1000
years ago. We live in the world NOW!!, we need to fix the world we live in NOW!!. This is just an attempt to deflect attention away from what's happening NOW!!, and an attempt to get on someone's case because they don't really have something to criticize about them, at least none that they can think of apparently, in the here and NOW!!
